Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
My relative was with a girl in Hawaii whileheI was in the Marines and she got pregnant. She had the baby in Florida and got him to sign as the father on her promise they could raise the child together, as a family. As soon as he signed she said get lost. he is out of the Marines and in Texas near Dallas.
She is getting back with her ex-husband and wants him to waive custody rights and also pay child support. She had just gotten divorce when they started dating, non exclusively and he is not sure he is the father..
She is threatening to sue for child support. What should he do?

If he's really interested in having a relationship with the child, he shouldn't wait; he can file his own paternity suit.
Because of all the different states involved, he could have some interesting jurisdictional questions.
When (if) she files her own paternity suit, he can (in connection with that suit) ask for court-ordered visitation with the child. He can even ask for full custody if he wants.
