Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
relinquishment of child custody under duress
Almost 2 years ago, at mediation, I was strongly urged by my 2 court-appointed attys. to give full custody of my 2 children to the grandmother of one of them, I was reluctant to sign but then I was told I would lose all parental rights if I did not.
I was clearly intoxicated.
Is this document legal? Is this grounds for voiding the order or an appeal?
Though the woman said she would give my children back to me if I gave her custody she now says I must sue her for custody. I am on SSI and cannot afford high legal fees and legal aid will not assist me.
What can I do?

Re: relinquishment of child custody under duress
My guess is that this was a CPS case and there was a reason you were in danger of having your parental rights terminated. Even if you find an attorney you can afford, there may be little or no chance of you regaining custody. See if you can find a good family law attorney in your area who with sit down with you and go over the entire situation and give you a realistic evaluation of your chances of regaining the children.
