Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

responding to divorce papers . do i have to respond?

my wife filed on me in williamson county, texas. she is asking for $200.00 a week temporary spousal support. which currently is a little more than what i am making at the moment. they also haven't even contacted my boss to see what exactly i am making a week. so how can they ask for that amount? also, if i do not respond in alloted time, am i in default? and if so, does that mean i am binded to that $200.00 a week? i don 't know if i should respond, she told me not to get a lawyer and i wouldn't have to pay anything. but if i do get a lawyer, i will. ????????????

thanks,
