Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Responding to Petition to Modify Child Support
I need to respond to this petition within 20 days that I was served. I want to deny his request to reduce Child support. What wording do I use in my letter to the Clerk of the Court (as I am not versed in ''legal-ese'') to do so and how should I mail this letter? first class? return response? etc.? I am looking for a way to afford a lawyer and need to buy myself some time to do so. Thank you

Re: Responding to Petition to Modify Child Support
You need to mail a copy certified to the clerk and to your ex.
I would go to a local law library -- or try any library and look for a document called "ANSWER".
It might be available on line, even at this site, but since I don't need to use these sort of services so I don't know anything about them.
If you can go by the actual court, perhaps the clerk can assist you. Some will and some won't.
BE ADVISED THAT CLERKS ARE NOT ATTORNEYS AND CANNOT GIVE YOU LEGAL ADVICE.
Good luck!
