Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Rights of attorney

I recently went through a divorce in TX. When the draft of the final decree was sent to me, I saw that the lawyer had requested that the money I was awarded be made out in a check to her. I requested that the check be made out to only me but she submitted it to the court as being written to her. I believe she intends to deduct what I owe her from it. Is this legal? And, if not what can I do about it? I just received the final decree to sign, and the money owed me is already in her account. Do I sign it? Please advise. Thank you

Re: Rights of attorney

Your lawyer expects to be paid? What a concept! How dare she! All kidding aside, this is a simple and effective way of getting paid for legal services. It is quite legal.
