Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Do I have any rights after divorce is final?
My resident alien ex-husband and I divorced in November 2000. Our ADHD daughter is 11. He left due to an affair, after I had major back surgery. During the seperation, I was hospitalized for a nervous breakdown. My attorney gave me the final decree to sign, on her way out of the office right after my release. She never did a discovery, although I believed my ex had hidden funds from an inheritance of mine and lied to the IRS. When I refused to sign the document without reading it first, she threatened me that she didn't have time to answer any questions, and that it would be better to settle than to go to court. I signed. Now, the condition for which I had surgery is recognized as an ongoing degenerative disease. My temporary support will be over in a few months, yet I am unable to work. Can any legal action be taken? My daughter and I are behind on bills, and may end up in government housing, while he has bought a new convertible, and is looking at houses. My credit has been ruined in the process, as he cashed out our bank accounts while I was bedridden to go spend Christmas and New Years with his mistress in Canada. I would appreciate any advice. Thank-you.

Re: Do I have any rights after divorce is final?
There are a number of legal actions that may be available. If there was fraud involved in the distribution of assets you have 2 years. Depending on the nature of your child's problems you may be entitled to more than normal child support and child support might last longer than the usual 18 years. Find a lawyer in your area and give details. If you are in Dallas Fort Worth area feel free to call me or email details.
