Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Rights of a legal adult still living under parents' roof

My girlfriend's parents have forbidden her from having any contact with me or my sister [who is her best friend].

Neither my sister nor I has done anything to justify this. Her parents simply decided we were not the kind of friends they wanted her to have.

My girlfriend is 18. Is there not a law forbidding them to control her in such a way? As a legal adult, isn't it her choice who she chooses to associate with? Or does she have to submit to their wishes as long as she is under their roof?

Your help would be very greatly appreciated in this matter. My girlfriend would leave home but cannot currently due to various circumstances.

Since she's 18, she is an adult and she can do anything that she wants.

If she wants to live at her parents, then obviously she will have to obey their rules in order to live there.

There is an old saying - He that has the gold makes the rules. It applies in your girl friend's case. If she wants to accept housing and food from her parents, she must follow their rules.

If she wants to do "her thing" then she needs to be self-sufficient.
