Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Runaway
Can a 17 yr. old be forced to come home after running away. Everyone I talk to (some law enforcement officers) have a conflicting opinion. What are my rights as a parent to get my child home? Are there legal ways to make this happen? Thanks

Re: Runaway
No. A person cannot be a runaway after turning 17 years old. It is no longer an offense under the the Juvenile Code. The conflict occurs when there is a Family Court order governing that child's conservatorship until 18, high school graduate, or otherwise emancipated. The parent with care, custody and control of the child between the age of 17-18 has to answer to the court.
Re: Runaway
Unfortuantely, you've entered into that last year when a person is not considered a child or an adult.
Good luck!
