Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
selling of community property
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My Girlfriend is going through a divorce. All she can afford is legal aid. The divorce is underway and she will be going to court to finalize everything in a month or so. This is the problem. Everthing they owned was in a storage building that the exhusband had rented. He has already took everything he wanted out of storage eventhough the judge said to wait until they can divide i up in the courtroom. He also wants to take the car from her, even thoug she has made all of the payments on it. She has the title to the car. Now, what are the chances of her actually getting anything back that he took out of storage? Can she sell the car before the divorce is final without getting in trouble? Her lawyer expresss no intrest in actually helping her get what she needs. Can she request a new lawyer this late?

Legal aid lawyer do the best they can, but they have hundreds of cases. It's almost impossible for them to give each case individual attention. Certainly, there are legal measures to protect the rights of your girlfriend, but it would be up to the lawyer to do that. If she's not getting the service she wants for free, then maybe she could hire a lawyer on a payment plan.
