Seperation with Child

I am not married but share a son with a man who I am wanting to seperate from. However, I do not want to loose my son. Eventhough he is the father of my child and we are not married could he take my son away from me?

If you are an unfit parent, and if you do not take steps to protect your child, and your parental rights. Consult with an attorney to file a Suit Affecting Parent-Child Relationship.
