Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I am getting a settlement in California but I live in Texas.i am currently married and want to leave my husband. If I leave and divorce him after I get the settlement will I have to give my husband part of the settlement. He is not involved in the settlement. Or is it better if I divorced him before I get the settlement

We would need to know a lot more about this "settlement." Not all lawsuit settlements are alike.
