My current wife's ex husband has been in Jail for 9 Years and has commited a crime in jail preventing him from getting out next year. He has agreed to sign over rights as long as we allow him to get out of his Back Child Support. Me and my wife have talked about it and would like to go through with it but do so without a lawer. Where could go to get the information and forms for Removing his rights so I could adodpt the 2 children and not have to owe the back shild support myslef?

Re: Signing over childrens rights

Its great that you are taking these big steps to bringing greater peace and stability to your children's lives.

There are at least two steps involved here: a) terminating the biological father's rights, and b) doing the step-parent adoption.

You can try visiting the law library in your community and figuring out the many steps involved in doing this yourself. I am not being facetious; I think that it would be an eye-opening experience for you to research all that is involved in taking on a complex legal matter.

That being said, the chances of your getting this done without professional assistance is about the same as someone with no mechanical experience rebuilding their own transmission.

If you decide to hire a lawyer, there are many qualified family law attorneys who can assist you. If you can't afford an attorney, contact legal aid in your community.

Best wishes to you.
