Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I would like to know what signing over custody of my son to my brother entails. Although he basically raises him now, he has a felony theft charge thats 15 years old. I am diagnosed with bipolar disorder and recieve medicaid for myself

and my son. through the ssi we also have medicade. wich leads to my second and final question... will relinquishing custody affect either of our ssi or medicade benefits?

You need to talk to a family law attorney in your county.

Look on this website & on www.avvo.com

I have no idea if relinquishing custody will impact your ssi or medicade benefits since I don't know how the federal government made the determination. You would need to take your paperwork to the attorney and have the attorney review your paperwork.

The felony theft is very old. I doubt that it would impact custody. However, the father of the child would need to be notified about this legal matter. He has the legal right to be receive legal notification and to appear in court.

Please talk to an attorney about this important matter.

Thank you for doing what is right for your child.

Good luck!
