Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

am a single mother of a baby that was born 6 months ago. The father was not at the hospital, did not sign the birth certificate and has never been by to see the baby. I live in Texas and have an upcoming child support hearing. The baby has my last name and the name of my brother who was killed in action. There is no one left alive to carry on my last name. Will i be forced to change my baby's last name in order to receive child support?

It depends.

The father has to ask that the child's last name be changed.

I recommend it highly that you hire an attorney to go with you to the TX A G hearing.

The TX A G does NOT represent you - the agency represents all TX taxpayers in trying to make both parents support their child financially.
