Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Small claims court

I recently lost a case in small claims court to my ex girlfriend. The case was in Small claims court in Frisco. What is the penalty if I choose not to pay the money I owe her? Can I be sent to jail? Can she sue me in a higher court? Knowing all my options would help greatly.

Thank you

Re: Small claims court

She has a judgment against you. She will not take the case to a higher court, as the judgment is a valid one, and is as enforceable as any other judgment.

The judgment can be filed and affect your credit. She can do an asset search, and try to execute the judgement against assets which are not exempt. You cannot go to jail for nonpayment of a debt. Your wages cannot be garnished.
