I want sole custody of my son

My son's father was physically abusive to me for years. I have just recently left him. He doesn't know where we are but he has been calling my grandma and threatening to hurt her if she doesnt tell him where we are. I have filed for a protective order agianst him. I need herp getting sole custody of my son. I'm terrified of my ex and I'm scared of what he will do to me and my son if he finds us. I dont want my son growing up with a dad who is physically violent towards me. Please!! Can anyone help me?

Re: I want sole custody of my son

Although I am in great sympathy for your reasons, what you're asking is very difficult. You will have to prove that your ex has been or is likely to be violent to your child. Then I doubt that you would get sole custody. You might get restricted or supervised visitation but just because he has been violent to you does not necessarily meet the test for sole custody. That's very hard to get. If you want to try, it will cost significant amount of money. Sometimes the next question is - can somebody do it pro bono (for free). I don't know if that question applies to you or not. If not, I apologize for making that assumption. For some reason, people think we have a lot of time and money, but we have also a lot of expenses and a lot of work. If you can find someone who has a lot of money and a lot of time, then that's the lawyer to do it pro bono. If you can afford to hire a lawyer, good luck to you.
