Start planning now. Regardless of the quality of his parenting, he has the legal right to do so. He claims that he is going to make an effort to be a father, and it is now your responsibility to further that relationship. Encourage your ex to visit at least once or twice before the wedding, and to call and email/write more often. You need to talk to your son about the visits in a positive way, to keep your son from feeling nervous.

Unless there is something dangerous about your ex, the court will allow him to exercise possession, and will probably order a similar routine to re-establish the relationship.

Good luck.
