Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
I have a son who will be 12 in a few months. He has never met his father and I have never received a dime from the father. When I had my son I was forced to go on welfare for 3-4 months till I could move out of Hawaii and get back on my feet. The state of Hawaii tried to go after him but he just disreguarded any letters. I have tried to make contact only a few times over the years. Is there a way I can go after him for child support and have him pay legal fees ( he should be able to afford it, at the time, 12 yrs ago he was making 1,700 a week)? If I could afford it I would have done this a long time ago myself. Just doesnt seem fair that I am stuck with out his help and being stuck not being able to make him help just because I dont have the money. At the present I reside in Texas and the Father in Kentucky.
Thank You, Angie Campbell

Your best bet is to contact the Texas Attorney General; they have a system of crossing state lines to establish paternity (through UIFSA). The good news is: it's free. The bad news is: it takes over a year from start to finish, since the AG is slow and inefficient.
