Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My sons dad has been hitting me. He choked me the other night and tried to stab me but his girlfriend stopped me. I left and I am now in a safehouse with my son. I plan on leaving the state. I am the only one on the birth certificate he is not on there he never signed it. Can I leave the state without getting in trouble.
