Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My son's father pays child support. According to the Attorney General my son's last names is the same as his fathet's last name. However, my son's ss card and birth certificate have my last name. How can his father and I keep my son's last name as my last name? Is there a form for that?

My guess is that there's a court order that changed the child's last name. If that is the case, then the name has been changed, regardless of what's on an SS card or a birth certificate.
