Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

hello, ok my sons grandmother called me and said that i needed to fax over my son birth certificate and social security card to her so she can send it to the legal aid lawyer for child support because he did not sign the birth certificate....ok i called the child support office and they said they sent paperwork to his base because he is in the navy now and that i should be receiving something in 30-45 days....he had a child support order before and they never asked for any of that info......so why does she need it?...should i send it over?
