Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Special Case Divorce, Incarceration

My younger sister's husband is incarcerated for a felony charge, and she wants a divorce. He has threatened her because she wants to get a divorce so he is trying to not give her the divorce and he has not shown any interest in the children other than using them as a tool to get to her. How can she get the divorce and be clear of him for good? Due to his activities she is indigent, and cannot afford an attorney can you suggest something. She really wants out of this... Thank you

In my area, the local bar association provides assistance for indigent persons in these cases. Look up the local bar association in the phone book or call a lawyer's office and ask them for the address and telephone #. Good Luck

If your sister is near Houston, the downtown county law library should have many books and forms which she may find of use. She might try the local law schools (South Texas College of Law, The University of Houston and the Thurgood Marshall Law School) to see if they have a family advocacy program. She might also consider joining Texas Fathers for Equal Rights.
