Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
spousal maintenance
I left a stable job and turned down a promotion because my husband requested that I relocate overseas to Singapore with him in June '08 to pursue his V.P. promotion. We have an 11yr old son as well.
Once I--name removed--relocated, a couple of months later, he stopped assisting me with my personal bills, closed all joint bank accounts and basically cut me off financially. Meanwhile, I was unable to find employment in Singapore. I requested that my husband send myself and our son back to the U.S. He refused to do so. Finally, I had to approach his company in Nov, to finance myself and my son's tickets back to the U.S. (Texas) while my son is on Christmas break) Now, however- my credit is horrible, which is going to make it even harder to get a job in this market. The living conditions deteriorated to such a point that I'm now needing to leave Singapore without being able to have a job in the U.S. My husband is constantly disrupting job search efforts by restricting me from using the laptops and/or phones.
Question: Since I gave up my career to relocate with him and he made it impossible for me to stay in Singapore long enough to find a job back in the U.S., am I entitled to Spousal Maintence? We've been married 11yr

Re: spousal maintenance
Since you have been married more than ten years, you qualify to petition the court for spousal support. You can petition for it temporarily, while the divorce is pending, and for three years following the divorce.
