Re: Spousal Support

"Spousal Support" is a term used in Texas that is fairly synonymous to alimony. To date, spousal support in Texas has been granted in only limited circumstances and in limited amounts; however, recent legislative changes will likley act to change this practice. Support may be granted now on a number of factors -- for example, level of education, arrangements between spouses (one stays at home, one works during the marriage), etc. I encourage you to seek out the services of an attorney in your area to either attempt to obtain support payments if that is your goal or conversely to oppose such payements. If you have further questions or if I can be of service to you, please feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected] or call 254.756.5004 Thanks.

Re: Spousal Support

Spousal support is alimony in Texas.

I just got back from the Advanced Family Law Course in San Antonio and am still absorbing all the information I heard.

Please be advised that as of September 1, 2001, spousal support rules will be expanding/changing in Texas.

Spousal suport can be temporary (during the divorce) or ordered after the divorce is final.

In order to get spousal support in Texas, there must be a need shown.

The amount ordered to be paid is based on a number of things - proof of need, how much money the other spouse makes, etc.

If you live in the Houston area, please feel free to call me at 713-847-6000.

You really need to talk to an attorney about the specifics of your situation.

Best of luck!
