Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Spouse Support Awarded in Court

Over 20 yrs ago, I was awarded spouse support in a California court. I have never been able to receive it because I didn't know where he was. I now know, and we both live in Texas. Can I still get this support from him? The document says until I have remarried, I haven't. Or until I die, I haven't. Or until the order is changed by a court.

Now, that I'm retired, I could sure use this money.

Just from what you have written, I would expect that your judgment (if that is what you got from CA) is probably expired and would not allow execution for payment. You should consult with a lawyer if you want a more specific response.

You may very well be able to collect this still if he now lives in Texas. There is some recent case law that may assist you in collecting on this old judgment. If you live in North Texas, give me a call.
