Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Out of state custody question

I live in California, my ex and 3 year old daughter live in Texas. I was just served with an order adjudicating parentage. I want to make some ammendments to the order, is this something I can discuss with a California lawyer or will I need to use a lawyer from the county in which I was served?

Re: Out of state custody question

Generally your time and money is better spent retaining an attorney in the county (or contiguous county) and state where the case is pending.

Has the order been signed by the judge? If so, the court will retain jurisdiction for only 30 days, so you should act quickly.

You need to consult with an attorney in the geographic area in which the action was filed.

Good luck to you!
