My 12 yr old son has lived with my mother most of his life and is now in the state of Texas' custody, due to my mother was arrested for hot checks. THey now feel she is emationally and mentally unstable to care for him. I have voiced that I will take him into my home, and following they began an extensive home study. But recently, without recieving the results and final report for the state of Oklahoma ,where I live, they have now set a hearing to terminate my rights. They stated to me in their past cases they have never had a home study come thru in which the person being studied has had prior involvement with CPS in the state in which they live. I do have an open CPS case but my childern are in my home and I am getting full custody back on Oct 20, 2003, in which 3 mos later will have the case reviewed and closed. The judge in Texas also says I don't qualify for a court appionted attourney

Re: State of Texas trying to Terminate Parental Rights
If I were you, I'd run (not walk) to an attorney.
If your parental rights are terminted, you will technically be treated as if you are dead.
I strongly urge you to retain an attorney immediately.
If you live in the Houston, Texas area, one of the attorneys in our office would be glad to assist you. Our deposit would be $1,500 then a weekly payment plan.
Good luck!
