Need change sons last name to my maiden name

My son is almost 4 years old and his father has not seen him sience he was 5 months only. He signed a Affidavit of relinoushment of parental rights in 2010 but nothing was ever done with it. I can not afford a lawyer. Is there anyway to change my sons last name without the fathers know how because I do not wish for him to know he still has rights to his child because he doesn't want anything to do wtih his child.

I know of no way to change the child's name without notifying the father.

I would talk to an attorney in your county.
