Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Step childs right to health coverage
I remarried and brought two children
with me. My new husband and I
have one child together. I am a stay
at home mom and my husband has
family health coverage through his
job. Every time we argue he
threatens to remove my children
from his policy even though he still
has to have family coverage for me
and our child. My other kids' dad left
17 years ago and I don't receive
support or health insurance for
them. My husband wants my son to
pay for his share of the monthly
premium or he will be taken off the
policy. Can a step child expect basic
living care in a remarriage? Can the
courts compel my husband to keep
the children on the policy with an
injunction or other order? We file our
taxes jointly and claim the children
as dependents. We have no plans to
separate or divorce at all.

Re: Step childs right to health coverage
A step child does not have a right to coverage or support from a stepparent. A child DOES have a right to support and coverage from their natural parent, and I suggest you immediately start collecting the thousands owed by their father.
