Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
step parent adoption
we have hired and paid an attorney to represent us in a step parent adoption and he has done nothing except send a letter to the biological father, he has never contacted us in any way during this year and half period. We have always had to go to him. Can we have him refund our money or even a portion of it so we can retain a different lawyer?

I'm sorry for your problem. Send the attorney a letter CMRRR requesting your money back in 15 days. Then, make a complaint with the State Bar of Texas. Maybe you'll get your money back. or the job done.
Re: step parent adoption
As for a detailing accounting of the work he's done.
Also, you are entitled to a copy of your file. He cannot deny you a copy of all pleadings filed in the case.
However, his personal notes are not your property - the notes belong to him.
Good luck!
