Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Step-Child Adoptions

I have recentally married (about a year ago) and she has a son born out of wed-lock, while the fathers name is on the birth certificate, he really doesn't achive the ''fatherly'' roll. No court ordered things have come about, but I am wanting to adopt him. What ''speed bumps'' should I be ready to face? (Father Lives in FL and we live in Dallas TX area) Thanks in advance.

Re: Step-Child Adoptions

If the biological father is willing to agree to terminating his parental rights, you will have smooth sailing.

If he isn't serious about being a dad, he will most likely sign off on the deal to avoid having the child support obligation.

If so, you file for the termination and adoption in Texas. If he is not agreeable to termination you will still have the opportunity to make a difference in the child's life as a great step dad.

Best wishes to you.
