Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

step-father adopting adult child

My husband would like to adopt my 19 year old daughter. Her natural father died 3 years ago. She wants her step father to adopt her. Can We do this with out an Attorney? How can we get the forms to fill out. My husband is active military, but in Louisiana. They do not know what we need to do for Texas.

Re: step-father adopting adult child

Well, It should not be too difficult to adopt an adult. Do you need an attorney? I have an older car. I know how to check and add oil. I leave it to the professionals to change the oil. Anyone can represent themselves in a court case. If it is a criminal matter the court may look further but in civil matters a person can always represent him or herself. You might make a checklist- changing names is far easier than adoption. What is the point of the adoption? Your daughter and your husband feel like daughter father. Nothing will change if they go to court. My advice is that since your husband is in the military you take advantage of the legal minds there. Call the Jag and ask what help they will give. It is so nice to respond to a happy question.
