stepfather is a sexual deviant

I have been in a registered common law marriage for 10 years. I have 2 children from a previous marriage, and 2 from the current one. My husband had a pornography obsession that kept getting worse, and about 7 months ago I caught him looking through a hole in a garage wall that lead into my 20 year old daughters shower (while she was using it)! I wanted to call the police, but was swayed by my wanting to keep our family together, and the fact that he cried, and swore he would get help. He never did, (until now). But he left me about 1 month ago, saying he never loved me, etc. As I have not worked in more than 3 years, (and also have a thyroid disorder), I am feeling ''screwed over'' by him. He wanted me to stay home with the kids and mind the home. Currently he is paying all the bills (for now), but I don't know what to do, and how to protect my family financially. I also do not want him getting ANY custody of the kids. I am worried for their safety. I have proof of this ''peeping tom'' nonsense. What can I do to protect us? Is there any way he can still get the kids? I am so sick from all of this. Please advise me of what to do next. Should I report him to the police? Will that help my case? What is the statute of limitations here?
