Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Step-parent wants to adopt child

I was divorced in Texas in 1992 ,

I have an 8 year old

I have lived in New Hampshire for the past 3 years

I do not know where my ex-husband is and his family won't help me loacate him. He is $15,000 behind in Child support.

My husband wants to adopt my son and my current husband will send in a child support payment every so often so that it will make it difficult for this to happen, even though I have no clue where he is. He also will call every so often and threaten me that he is going to hurt me. I know I should go to the police but friends have told me that without out proof they will not do anything.

How can my husband adopt my son? Do I have to go through where I was divorced or can I go through where I live now. How do I prove abandonment? Please help.

Re: Step-parent wants to adopt child

File a Step Parent Adoption in the county where you reside. I suggest that you have an attorney handle this since you are dealing with a possible abandonment and he/she will know the laws in that area. Any time you have a threat you should contact the police. Your statement serves as evidence that this threat has occurred.
