Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Step-parent adoption

I am married and have a 2 year old son from a previous relationship. His

biological father is not involved (other than paying child support) and has

only seen the child twice (not at his own effort). I live in Texas and the bio

dad lives in California. I feel confident that he will give up his paternal rights

without a fight. My current husband wants to adopt my son. What is the least

expensive way we can accomplish this; and what is a reasonable range of fees

we can expect? Thanks.

Re: Step-parent adoption

A termination and a step-parent adoption can be handled in one proceeding. Your costs will include filing fees and abbreviated social study. If bio dad files a waiver of citation, then there will be no process fees. Attorney fees are in wide range. Presuming that bio dad is cooperative, and there are no problems with step-dad, then my fee would average $1500.00.
