What are the steps in getting Divorced in Texas? I am 48, a house, 5 acres and some money in bank. Do I need a lawyer to start?

It helps to start with an attorney. You can begin without one but you take the chance of messing up to the point that you will have to hire a lawyer later on to fix your mistakes.
Essentially one of you files a petition. Sometimes, especially when there are children the court may be requested to make Temporary Orders. These usually deal with child custody and support. The court cannot issue final orders until 60 days have passed from when the petition was filed.
