Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Stopping Child Support
My brother who is 17 has recently moved in with my father. My father wants to have the child support he is paying her on my brother stopped. He was recently told by human resourse that because of the way the divorce was written even to get it stopped when my brother turns 18 they are going to have to have a court order to hold it out of his check. My mother is not going to fight him on this, but it has to go through the courts. How much would something like this cost?

Re: Stopping Child Support
It should be under $1,000. Hopefully more like $500-$750.
I charge a deposit of $600 down with weekly payments of $50 (or $200 per month). I refund any unused money at the end of the representation.
If your mother does not object it should be easy and quick. If she objects, it could run over $1,000.
Any attorney you hire will need a certified copy of the last document the Judge signed -- it's probably the Final Decree of Divorce or a Modification. You can go downtown to the Civil Courthouse Bldg. in Houston, at San Jacinto and Congress and order one on the first floor. Bring cash -- it's $1 per page for a certified copy. Certified and uncertified costs the same so be sure to order a certified copy.
Good luck!
