Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I have been subpoenaed by my father lawyer to go to family court hearing. My mother filed for child support for my brother that has disability. My brother 19 years old. I do not like to go to hearing and testify. My parents forcing me to choose sides and I do not want to upset both of them. I am 19 years old and I am living at my friends house and working on my independence. Do I have to be at that hearing?Do I have to testify? Do I have a legal rights not to inflict harm to my well-been?

Thank you.

You are an adult. You can handle testifying in court; it won't harm your "well-been" [sic].

You have to respond to the subpoena by showing up in court. If you don't, there could be repercussions.

If you were served with a subpoena, then yes, you do have to appear in court and testify if called upon, or you could be found in contempt of court.

I understand that this puts you in a difficult and uncomfortable situation. If you are called to testify, just answer the questions truthfully. If a question can be answered with a simple "yes" or "no", then just leave it at that - don't volunteer additional information. No one can fault you for that!
