Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Support Change?

My ex-wife has complained to our son that I should be paying more support because 1) she doesn't like her job and 2) she can't afford things like her cell phone and various beauty treatments that she enjoys getting. I already pay a $1000 a month and have four years left till I'm done. Can she take me back to court to get more even though I am actually making less money now then when we got divoreced? I don't think I should have to pay for her cell phone or beauty treatments and think the money should go towards clothing, shelter and food for the kids. We've been divorced for 14 years.

Re: Support Change?

She can file for and request a modification, but will not get it based on those reasons. Support guidelines provide for a percentage of your net income depending on how many children are being supported. If a child has special needs then a court may deviate from the percentage.
