Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Support Payments

If we are paying child support to an ex by Cash Payments at her request, how do we get those payments registered with the State? She changed her address to a small--name removed-- Texas town and we were never given the correct entity to send the payments through. Now we have received notice from Child Support Office that we are delinquent in payments and they have added tremendous amount of interest to the amount they show due. The base amount is, of course, NOT correct and not due since payments (and excessive payments) have been sent to this woman for years.

Re: Support Payments

If you were ordered to pay through an agency and you paid her direct, the Judge might consider ALL of those payments gifts to her.

I urge you to get a certified copy of the legal document the Judge signed - probably the Final Decree of Divorce and have an attorney review it.

Don't proceed without legal counsel.

You will need to prove what you have paid to her directly - cancelled checks, etc.

If you paid her cash and do not have a receipt for each and every payment, you are in trouble.

Good luck!
