Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Taking on "Dads" last name

My daughters father and I were never married. When she was born she was given my last name. She is now 2. We just went to court, and the judge granted her his last name. Mine is still there as a middle name. I have the BC & SS card in my last name and refuse to change it. Is there anything that can happen that will affect her if I never use his last name? I know that he can file contempt on me, but will it screw up anything with her school or long term future?

Re: Taking on

Your actions are totally wrong and call into question your fitness as a mother. The Judge ordered you to use the faters last name. You must follow the ruling or risk being jailed for contempt. However, what is worse is the fact that you may royally stuff up your daughters school records, medical records and social security records.

I really cannot stand your attitude. Kids are not footballs. You cant play selfish games with them. Put aside your anger at him (for what ever he did, you still cared enough to sleep with him) and focus on the child. For better or worse he is the father and you really dont want to brand the child as a bastard child by playing games with the last name.

Please follow the courts order.
