Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

''Terminating Parental Rights for Unwed Parents''

A man found out that a girl he dated a few months ago, who is married & getting a divorce is pregnant. It is a good chance the baby is his. Can she put his name on the birth certificate without his consent? Can he sign over parental rights if he has aggreed to do nothing for her or the baby? If he signs over rights and does not ackowledge the baby is his, does he still have to pay child support?

Well sure, he can do anything he wants to do. the other parties can do anthing they like also. I think the real question is - can he just pretend the child is not his? Men who father children are responsible for supporting those children. The husband is the presumed father. That is a rebuttable assumption. If you think you may be the father of a child start the first steps to finding out. Depending on the mother and the presumed father's positions you may be on the hook. Talk to a lawyer and an investigator in your area. Try to think of this child as your litle contibution to the world - unless you find out otherwise.
