Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Texas Child Support enforecement options

What is the maximum sentence for contempt of court in regards to failure to pay child support.

The Attorney General of Texas is bringing my ex to court for YET ANOTHER child support enforcement. This is at least the 3rd time in 7 years. Every time he goes to court he pays for a while then quits his job. The last enforcement (2007) he was supposed to be on 'community supervision' and he didn't even bother showing up for his compliance hearing. My ex is being supported by his parents so he doesn't show any income. His family is wealthy and obviously all of them are not aware that there is no statue of limitations on back child suport. I feel that he is in contempt (civil and criminal) of court. His family can (will) give him the money to keep him out of jail IF the jail sentence is long enough. He has nothing in his name, everything is 'under the table'. He now owes 25,000 in back child support. What is the maximum sentence that the courts can/will give.

The short answer is, 180 days per violation.

Perhaps instead of waiting for the AG to do the enforcements, you should do one yourself. Odds are with an attorney of your own you can push for a harsher sentence. If you are in the greater Houston area, feel free to call my office to set up a consultation.
