I don't know of any landlord that would rent to a minor. A minor cannot legally sign a contract in the State of Texas.
A 16 yr. old could ask to "remove their disabilities" (emancipate) in the State of Texas. It is rare but the child would have to be totally self-supporting. I've addressed this on my blog. www.txfamilylaw4u.blogspot.com - it was a long time ago so you'll have to scroll down to find it. Judges hate emancipation and in over 20 yrs. of practice I've never done one. Plus, the parents would need to agree to it.
A child cannot move out until they are 18. Then they are an adult under Texas law.
