Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Transfer divorce case from GA to TX to file contemt
My divorce was finalized in GA 1 yr. ago. I moved to TX 4 mo. ago. My ex-husband is in contempt with child support (12k in rears), he is suppose to have visitation with all 6 children every other weekend but only takes 3 at a time, he was ordered to pay all marital debt ( he has not done this, he is not supposed to take negative action to impact the relationship with my children and I (but he he is for example: telling the children I don't love them, I don't use child support propperly, I don't love my current husband, I am only married to my husband for his money, saying my current husband can not punish them, set rules ect. and telling the children we are abusing them) This is all coming from my ex who has been on probation for domestic violence, I have had 2 protective orders on him. He also had child abuse sustantiated against him...he tells the kids I lied about all these things. How do I go about getting this case transfered to Texas courts so that I can take him in for contempt? Also, what can I do to help the children though this all? I can not afford a lawyer to help me with this, so I will need to do things on my own. Any help or advise would be appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Re: Transfer divorce case from GA to TX to file contemt
You need to live in Texas for 6 months in order for Texas to have jurisdiction over this case.
You would need to file a motion to move it to Texas.
It sounds like you need contempt and a modification.
You can certainly go to any law library and do the research yourself.
You can also try the free legal services in Houston - Lone Star Legal and Houston Volunteer Lawyers.
The Texas A G might also consider helping you. However, they only handle child support issues.
They won't modify visitation issues.
The Harris Co law library is located in the Judry Assembly Bldg. downtown at the corner of Fannin and Congress.
I believe that you really need to retain legal counsel to assist you.
