Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

transferring managing convertorship

I have managing convertorship of my granddaughter by a court document and would like to transfer it to the other grandmother. I have had it for over 10 years. Can I type up a letter and transfer it to the other grandmother, have it notarized and it be legal or does it require a judge to sign it? The child is 16 years old and wants to live with the other grandmother. State is Texas.

Re: transferring managing convertorship

Only a judge can change the managaging conservatorship of a child.

Understand the the new managing conservator would be entitled to child support from the possesory conservator.

Suggest you obtain an attorney to review your options.

No. You must file a motion to modify with the trial court. If everyone is in agreement, then you would all sign off on an agreed order.
