Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Turning 18 and want to leave

Simple and short - my girlfriend is just turned 18 and her parents basically control her life A LOT for the past 4 years. She want's to leave and visit me but the parents would definitely not approve, now that shes 18 can she willingly decide for herself and leave if she wants? If not then how can she proceed in doing so? (She'd be going from TX to Cali) Thank you.

Re: Turning 18 and want to leave

At 18 she is legally an adult and can make her own choices. Leaving aside the fact it sounds like you are saying she has been your girlfriend since she was 14 and you are objecting to the fact her parents have been acting like parents, she needs to carefully consider what will happen if she goes to California. If she leaves home, it may not be just for a visit; it may end up being permanent.

Although she would be an adult at 18, do you want her to have a relationship with you withouh her parent's blessing? I would not like to have that kind of relationship. Family is an important part of a person's life, and she may not have one if you two get together. The best thing a person can do is wait, because in time, her parents can see whether you are the best interest for their child. Don't break up a family.
