Re: undisputed custody
If you want legal custody of the child, you need to file legal documents to be signed by a Judge.
Do you need an attorney? of course not!
However, if you expect the Judge to sign the documents, you need appropriate language and the required forms.
When a judge goes on the bench, they are no longer able to give legal advice.
I offer a do it yourself kit if everyone is in agreement.
How much? It depends on how much work I have to do. Usually under $500. Then you have to pay your own filing fees.
Don't waste your money with the on-line kits or books for sale in local bookstores.
Most online kits are NOT designed for Texas. The books I've seen were once excellent but some have not been updated in over 10 years and TX law has changed!
Their guarantee -- I've not met anyone that has gotten their money back!
I see people at the courthouse crying all the time because they spent money and the court dismisses their case.
Then they have to start over!
You can go to the Harris County law library located downtown in the Jury assembly bldg. I don't know if their TX Family Practice Manual is current or complete. I do know that most people I met at the courthouse say the book is worn out. I'm not surprised.
Good luck!
