Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Unmarried child custody different states

I have a 3 month old baby. The father hasn't been around AT ALL since I was 4 months pregnant. He lives in ohio and I live in texas. We're unmarried. He hasn't supported her in any sort of way at all. He's practically a dead beat.. no job.. no initiative.. drug problem.. etc, which is why I left him. I don't think it's fair to me or her how he's treating her. Practically abandoning us. So my question is.. would it be really worth it for me to file for child support (since he's a bum) and how would I go about doing this.. since we live in two different states?

It's impossible to say whether it would be worth it. Sometimes, guys clean up their act, sometimes not. Whether you would ever get any money out of the guy depends on whether he ever has any money - and whether you could prove it. I don't want to discourage you because he owes the child this money. Take your case to the attorney general in TX. Tney have a staff of attorneys and support personnel devoted to your problem. Good Luck.
