Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Visitation decision of a teen

We live in Texas. My son is 13 (14 next month) and our son wants to go on a Mission Trip through our church during the summer break. Dad has strongly stressed that he does not care what our son's plans are, he wants our son when he is due his visitation.

Will the courts see this as violation of visitation?

Yes. Dad has the right to make such a demand. (If dad wants a good relationship with his son as he becomes a man, a little compromise and/flexibility is sometimes a good idea). Why don't you suggest mediating this dispute -- there might be a viable solution that neither of you have considered yet.

YES - you will be held in contempt of court.

Your possible punishment - paying his attorney fees, make up time and perhaps jail.

Don't you think it's strange that you are considering violating a commandment so your child can go on a church trip? (I thought honoring your father and mother was a taught at every church.)
